Pinnacle Peak Park. Reopened on April 20th, 2002 - this park provides a nice hiking trail beginning on the east side of the 3,171 ft high peak.

The hike. Passing the park office building (no entrence fee!) the trail takes a series of switchbacks. Along the way you can match numbers close to plants with numbers on a plant list, which you can get at the entrance building (see the list at the end).
Soon after passing the sign "Rock Climbing Access Trail" (for climbers only!) you arrive at the "Grand View" point on the north-east side of the peak. Take a brake and enjoy a great view towards north and east (with the Four-Peaks on the horizon). Just a little bit higher you pass the highest point on the trail (2,889 ft). From there on the descending trail (now westwards) leads on the north side of the peak to a saddle with a view to the south over Scottsdale. From here on the trail brings you on the side of another lower peak to the end and most western point of the trail. There is no exit or parking so you have to go back the way you came.

Plant numbers and names on the trail:
North view over 'Grand View Point' 1) Triangle Leaf Bursage
2) Creosote Bush
3) Christmas Cholla
