Deer Valley Rock Art Center. The mission is to preserve and to provide
public access to the Hedgepeth Hills petroglyph site, to interpret the cultural
expressions found there and to be a center for rock art studies.
There are 1500 ancient petroglyphs in this protected desert preserve. Many
of them can be seen along a trail. Indoor
exhibits and video interpret the petroglyphs. Here you will be introduced
to the studies of all different kinds of rock art and the difference
between petroglyphs, pictographs and geoglyphs (at this location you
will find petroglyphs).
Petroglyph. This is a design that has been made by removing material
from a rock's surface. Pictograph. This is a design that has been made by applying colors to
a rock surface. Geoglyph. This is a design made on the ground surface by removing or
rearranging stones or by shaping and modifying gravel-covered areas.
