The area of the Coyote Buttes is located in the northwestern part of the
Paria Plateau (Paria Canyon - Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness) in northern
Arizona.

It is controlled by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) which
handles also the necessary permits for hiking in the Coyote Buttes and
is devided into a northern (Coyote Buttes North) and a southern part
(Coyote Buttes South).
- Coyote Buttes North
There you can hike to one of the most magnificent places of Arizona - see
the amazing wonder of Navajo sandstone:
The Wave.
Only 20 hikers a day (with permits)
are allowed to experience this jewel of nature.
- Coyote Buttes South
This is an even more beautiful hiking region with incredible
formations of Navajo sandstone - the
Cottonwood Area
(Cottonwood Teepees, Cottonwood Spring and Cottonwood Cove).
Only 10 (!) hikers a day are allowed there and it takes a
difficult 4WD drive to get close.
These areas are dominated by the Top Rock, a mountain ridge
in the middle of the Coyote Buttes, raising up to about 6000 feet.
