Mule trips are the experience of a lifetime for many visitors of the Grand Canyon and are very popular. Please note that you might have to make your reservations months in advance. For more information and reservation call AMFAC at (303) 297-2757.

There are three different trips available:
- One-day trip to Plateau Point
- Overnight trip to Phantom Ranch
- Two-nights trip to Phantom Ranch

Mule trips are not dangerous but there is an amount of risk (isn't there always a risk in almost anything we do?). Please be aware that there are restrictions like your weight incl. cloths (max. 200 lbs/91 kg), your size (min. 4' 7"/1.38 m) and you have to be able to communicate with the guide in English and can't be pregnant. Disability restrictions may apply.

Mule trips without reservation:
The best chance to get on a mule trip without a reservation is during the winter, you have to place your name on a waiting list at the Bright Angel Transportation Desk. This is usually easy (especially if you can wait one or two days) during the winter. During the other seasons it seems to be impossible.

One-day mule trip to Plateau Point

Daily from the coral at the Bright Angel trailhead to Plateau Point (beautiful view of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River) and back.
Length: 12 miles and about 7 hours (6 hours in the saddle)
Price: about $100 per person

Overnight mule trip to Phantom Ranch

Daily from the coral at the Bright Angel trailhead; the trip follows the Bright Angel Trail (via Indian Gardens) to Phantom Ranch; dinner; over-night stay in a small cabin; breakfast; back to the South Rim (via South Kaibab Trail); bus shuttle to the Bright Angel Lodge.
Length: total 18.5 miles, riding for about 5.5 hours down and 4.5 hours up
Price: about $260 per person, couple and group prices available.

Two-nights mule trip to Phantom Ranch

Same as the one-night trip but with an extra day to enjoy and explore the area around Phantom Ranch.
Price: about $360 per person, couple and group prices available.
